Start a New Holiday Tradition Tea at the Ritz Carlton
A favorite way to enjoy the holidays and take a few minutes to unwind with a friend is over afternoon tea. It is a civilized way to take a break from crazy schedules to indulge in a timeless tradition. And what better place to experience it than the stately Ritz Carlton, located on Nob Hill.
On a recent Sunday, a friend and I decided to get together before the madness of the holidays was upon us and enjoy tea and conversation. My favorite mode of transportation to the Ritz is via San Francisco’s historic cable cars. The California line conveniently stops at the Ritz. The hotel is beautifully decorated with their customary tree perched on the grand facade. The lobby is transformed with a dramatic tree and decorations scattered throughout the hotel. The lobby lounge and bar is decked out for the holidays and is even more beautiful, if that is possible.
We were escorted to a cozy window table overlooking the outdoor terrace. A fire burned brightly while a harpist played soothing music. We were offered a glass of champagne to begin our tea, while we perused the tea selections. The Ritz has a dedicated “Tea Menu” with several choices of tea snacks and teas. We selected the Princess Tea from the tea menu which included a selection of sweet and savory bites.
When our tea selection arrived, our server described each item on the tiered tray. We happily chatted while noshing on the treats and alternating between tea and champagne. The smoked salmon with caviar was delicious, but so was the eggplant with pesto and the traditional cucumber and cream cheese tea-sandwiches. The scones were delightful accessorized with lemon curd or cream. We gave the sweets or best effort, but were unable to finish them all. Just when we thought we were finished, they brought out the strawberries and cream.
Whether you are catching up with a friend or family member or needing a respite from shopping, afternoon tea is an excellent choice.
