Marlin Lodge is awarded five-star rating on diving facilities

Mantis property Marlin Lodge in Mozambique has been awarded a Five Star Dive Resort by the PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. How does one earn such a prestigious award? To qualify for this status, Marlin Lodge has displayed environmental awareness through active initiatives, continued diving education through specialty courses, community involvement by hiring local skippers to operate boats and assist divers, and high-standard equipment and facilities, along with other more technical requirements.

Marlin Lodge beach cabana

Located on a private island in the Barazuto Archipelago, Marlin Lodge provides everything the jet-setter can imagine for a beach escape. With 14 Luxury Beach Suites ($580) and three Executive Beach Suites ($742), guests can step out of their room and enjoy true paradise. In addition, individual chalets are available, built from Mozambican hardwood, reed-clad brick walls and thatched ‘jecca’ roofs. Forget about flipping on the television or calling your friends back home; the resort does not provide either device in any of the guestrooms, allowing for total relaxation.

The waters around Marlin Lodge feature a range of diving sites and depths, suitable for all levels of experience. These include the 2 Mile Reef, The Wreck (Home Reef), Aquarium, 5 Mile Reef, Magaruque Express (Drift Dive), Cabo San Sebastio and Pipe Reef (House Reef). Novice through advanced divers will have the opportunity to view an abundance of fish, coral, turtles and sharks, and even take a night dive. I, however, might pass on the dive where the barracuda are often seen. As they say, there are always plenty of other fish in the sea.

When not exploring the many diving sites guests can indulge in a variety of other activities. Picture yourself relaxing by the sparkling pool, sipping drinks in the open air cocktail lounge, galloping on horseback across the white sandy beach, enjoying a cruise in a traditional Mozambique Dhow, taking a tour around the island, or unwinding with a spa treatment at the Beauty & Wellness Spa Center. Guests can also choose to dip into the turquoise blue waters and go snorkeling, windsurfing, hobie cat sailing and kayaking.
