Car Envy at the Presidio Concours d’ Elegance
Strolling the rows of fabulous cars it’s hard not to want them all. At the Concours d’ Elegance at San Francisco’s picturesque Presidio Parade Grounds there were 160 cars on display representing 100 years from 1910 through 2010. Rolls-Royce had a number of their classic beauties exhibited celebrating 100 years of motoring. I would love to take weekend trips to the wine country in one of those glamorous touring cars. Then again, driving windy back roads would be oh-so fun in one of the sleek sports cars. The collection of Rolls-Royce’s, Alfa Romeo’s, and Ferrari’s were enough to make anyone love cars. But how do you just choose one?
The 1914 Petite Princess Speciale stole the show and it happens to be the only one of its kind in the world. This beautiful car was designed for Tiffany’s. The interior looks like a leather jewel box and even the crank looks like a piece of jewelry. The back windows are beveled glass. This would be the car to own and I would look great in it!
Admiring the cars and speaking with car owners and other car collectors is a great way to help determine which automobile is a perfect choice. Owners love to talk about their cars and share their experiences. Surprisingly, many are for sale. There are plenty of car-brokers eager to help make my dream car become a reality and many are here at the show.
Owning a vintage car allows entry into an exclusive club with other collectors. You join a community of like-minded people sharing a passion for cars. Becoming a part of this club, exhibiting a car and participating in road rally’s could be a lot of fun. Who knows, someday soon I could be traveling in style (in a beautiful vintage car) to some of the world’s most exclusive places.
Keep an eye out for next year’s event on their website.
