Art Show to Benefit Japan
Super happy, fun artwork for a great cause–this is one of my favorite art curators and stores that celebrate Japanese cuteness. Be sure to visit their art show this weekend where 100% of the proceeds go to Japanese relief.
A word from the curator:
Dear Friends,
Friday, we watched as Japan was shook by an 8.9 earthquake and then a tsunami, and then there was news of a possible meltdown of their nuclear reactor. Everyone at JapanLA, including our customers and friends, have an affinity for Japan and its culture, so to hear the terrible news, not only made us really sad, but made us wonder what could we do to help. Then, Caro, founder of Sweet Streets LA & Shibuya Girls Pop Tokyo, emailed me and told me she was doing an art show to benefit those affected by the disaster in Japan.
Since JapanLA just moved to a new location, we have lots more space, so we are able to host the art show here, at 7320 1/2 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90046. The Opening Reception is this SATURDAY, MARCH 19TH, 7PM-10PM.
The Art Show titled “#PrayForJapan” is named after a popular Twitter hashtag (Twitter being our main line of communication with Japan). 100% of the proceeds from the art sales will go directly to the Red Cross efforts in Japan. The show will run March 19th – April 4th.
Caro is curating the show, and our friends at Bubble Punch, along with some great volunteers, are helping to coordinate it. Caro sent out a call to artists when she heard about what was going on in Japan, and so many people offered to donate art. So far, there are about 50 artists donating original art, prints, and other items like bows and plushies, including TOKIDOKI, Yoskay Yamamoto, Luke Chueh, Camilla d’Errico, Chubby Bunny Bows, and lots more.
Please email Caro if you are interested in purchasing anything before the show, or if you live out of town and can’t make it: info @ sweetstreetsla.com
JapanLA is also donating 10% of all sales during the Opening Reception, on March 19th to the Red Cross.
So, come down to JapanLA this Saturday, March 19th and #PrayForJapan with your friends who also love Japan. Also, please spread the word on Twitter and Facebook.
We still need volunteers for the event. If you can help, please email bubblepunch @ gmail.com
