Sizzling Food, Anyone?
Since leaving high school and going in separate directions, my former classmates and I find it difficult to find a day when we are all free. Whether we’re working, pursuing further education, or married and living abroad, it’s a challenge to schedule a day with the girls. But we do our best to meet up at our mini-reunions and make the most out of it.
On one such occasion, we scheduled to meet for lunch, some weeks ago. I made a reservation at a relatively recent restaurant called The Sizzle. The concept behind The Sizzle is the entire meal is served on a cast iron platter, which is placed on a wooden base, and which is then served sizzling to the diner. The restaurant only serves sizzlers on their menu, from the drinks, to the starters, to the main course, to the desserts. A typical sizzler main course is served with grilled vegetables, and a choice of sauces, potatoes (french fries/mashed/baked/wedges) and carbs (rice/noodles/spaghetti/pasta). The restaurant has three private dining areas for larger crowds and that’s where we had our mini reunion. First up we ordered drinks, and I ordered an Apple Juice which was served to me sizzling!
We skipped on starters and went straight for the main course. I don’t remember what everyone ordered but I do remember a couple decided to go Indian and try the sizzling chicken biriyani – Ali’s Favorite Biriyani, while another tried the Mongolian special for that day. The Sizzle serves a variety of dishes from Western to Indian to Mongolian to Chinese. I ordered the CC’s Favorite Sizzle, which consisted of a grilled boneless breast of chicken topped with cheese. I opted for garlic sauce, with mashed potatoes and pasta. The food does takes about 30 minutes to get to you, but in my opinion totally worth the wait!
The main course filled us up quite a bit, but we had to try the desserts. My friend and I decided we’d split one between ourselves – that way, less calories! We had an item which was called Teresa’s Favorite Sizzle. It was of course sizzling when served to us! It was a Philadelphia cream cheese blueberry cake and ice cream topped with almond sauce. Boy! Was that good! I recall a friend had Laura’s Favorite Sizzle which was a chocolate brownie and vanilla ice creamed topped with chocolate sauce. The next time I’m there, I might try that out! The afternoon turned out well, with good food, good friends and good memories. What more can one ask for?
