If Pretty Woman taught us anything, the scrutiny by Beverly Hills sales girls can be soul-sucking. To combat the retail fatigue, head to MY VIENNA Gelato and Coffee for a quick caffeine pick-me-up and well-deserved sugar rush as you bounce from boutique to boutique.

The gelatos come in a variety of house-made flavors, both perennial customer favorites as well as seasonal offerings that rotate on and off the menu. Overall, the custard base has a rich, smooth texture, and each of the flavors is balanced, strong and clean.

There are certainly a lot of solid choices, but for me, highlights included: the award-winning and rich chocolate and hazelnut nocchiolone; the raspberry and black currant, both of which were lip-puckeringly juicy and tart; and the European cookies with its decadent chocolate/hazelnut notes and crunchy chocolate dipped biscotti crumbles. The seasonal blackberry basil was also refreshingly great but if you’re not a fan of basil you might want to skip it.
