Manzanilla – The Hidden Gem Ensenada
There is a place I love to eat in Ensenada Mexico that just screams New York artist loft. A big warehouse in the ships yards of the Ensenada, it is so off the beaten track that only the elite locals tend to know about it. In true European fashion, it gets busy late. Here, you will rub elbows with the young and hip as well as the makers of the nearby Via de Guadalupe wines. You may even find yourself drinking one of their delectable creations that are featured on the extensive wine list.
As you walk into the huge double doors, you are awe struck by the largest, most ornately carved bar you’ve ever seen. Apparently a gift to the owner, one wonders if they opened the place just to house this masterpiece. It’s also a wonder how they ever got it in the place.
The pink chandeliers, held with green velvet rope, give a feeling that you’ve walked into a bordello of another era.
The art is always changing, so you never know which cool local artist will be featured. Even the little smoking lounge on the side has a cool little vibe to it.
The nouvelle cuisine is always organic and fresh. Even the olive oil served with your freshly baked bread is local. They feature such dishes as this grilled pear and candied walnut salad and organic mini root vegetable risotto.
They are only open Wednesday through Saturday and book out for private parties so reservations are suggested.
