Jetsetting With the Multi-Talented James Gilchrist
James Gilchrist, also known as JimmyRockstar, is an aspiring recording artist with additional talents in event planning, modeling, acting, and business management. Known to his family as “Jimmy” from a young age, he acquired the name “Rockstar” while on a missionary trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as a teenager. The name has since stuck with Gilchrist and helped define his life, pursuing a passion in entertainment via marketing, hospitality, and advertising. Gilchrist’s ambitious spirit and search for rock star fame and fortune carried him to more than 20 countries before he turned 20 years old.
Q: What type of traveler are you? (ie: adventurer, cultural explorer, free spirit, rejuvenator, spa aficionado, etc.)
A: In this order: free spirit, rejuvenator, cultural explore, adventurer.
Q: What types of activities do you like to do on your travels? Do you look for a place where it’s quiet and you can relax, or someplace that has great activities or nightlife?
A: First I would put on my running shoes and run 2 to 3 miles just to get familiar with my surroundings. I always look for a peaceful place to meditate or read. I typically partake in paddle boarding, jet skiing, and seeing what the nightlife has to offer.
Q: When thinking about where you will travel to next, what inspires you to make a decision? And what, if any, research do you do on that destination?
A: What inspires me first is if I have been there before. I would normally do market research of different social areas and also seek out the latest trends in music and fashion.
Q: What is the best food find you’ve ever found on a trip?
A: Butterfish in Maui, Hawaii.
Q: What, if anything, do you always take with you when you travel?
A: A good read, music, and workout clothes.
Q: What’s your best piece of travel advice?
A: Always know your surroundings, always be friendly, and don’t accept things from people you don’t know.
Q: Is there a destination where you can’t imagine not returning?
A: Rio de Janeiro.
Q: Where are your favorite weekend getaways?
A: Boca Grande, Florida, or Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Q: Where would you like to travel next?
A: Paris, France.
Q: Where is your favorite destination to enjoy a cigar?
A: In the mountains of Rio De Janiero.
Q: Tell us about your upcoming project(s)?
A: I’m working with Houston All Star Weekend and assisting in all activities for the NBA All-Star Weekend in 2013. I am also putting the finishing touches on the music label Rock-N-Dade.
James Gilchrist Bio:
James Gilchrist acquired the nickname JimmyRockstar while in high school and has used it as inspiration ever since. While in college at Georgia State University, Gilchrist established a team work ethic as a member of the basketball team and majored in human resources, producing weekly parties and interning with Frank Ski Morning Show at V-103 in Atlanta, which led to a passion for the entertainment industry. Acting classes helped him gain lead roles in a few short films, including “Travis Porter: Red Rock,” which was released in November, and he has appeared and sold advertising on OrlandoAllstarWeekend.com. With his band, New Confederates, the aspiring musician touches upon spiritual, political, and social issues through rock ’n’ roll and hip hop and aims to influence all ethnicities, genres, and music lovers around the world.
