Jetsetting With Singer-Songwriter Al’Michael
Pop and soul singer-songwriter Al’Michael moved to Los Angeles from Columbia, Missouri, to launch a solo music career. His songs tell tales of love, hope, struggles, and self-discovery, and he is often compared to Adele or dubbed a “darker Bruno Mars.” Al’Michael’s latest single, “Fire to Myself,” hit the airwaves in October, a preview of his upcoming EP “Head vs Heart.”
Q: What type of traveler are you? (i.e., adventurer, cultural explorer, free spirit, rejuvenator, spa aficionado, etc.)
A: I’m a free spirit. I don’t need to have a destination in mind and have everything mapped out. I do whatever I feel that day.
Q: What types of activities do you like to do on your travels? Do you look for a place where it’s quiet and you can relax or someplace that has great activities or nightlife?
A: I look for a mixture of both peace and activity. It’s always good to stay somewhere that has activities within walking distance and also offers quiet areas for relaxing.
Q: When thinking about where you will travel to next, what inspires you to make a decision? And what, if any, research do you do about that destination?
A: I like to go where I can learn about new styles of music and see the origin and culture of the music, how the people are influenced by it, etc. I like to get to the heart of the place and get to the bottom of where the music started
Q: What is the most memorable trip you’ve taken and why?
A: I went to school in Europe for a short period of time. It was my first time in a different country with new people and around a different culture. I was the only American in the school. I also love family vacations for Thanksgiving in Atlanta and just being close to family.
Q: What is the best food you’ve ever found on a trip?
A: One time in Paris I had a pizza with an egg in the middle. I had never seen that before, but it was good.
Q: What, if anything, do you always take with you when you travel?
A: My Bible and my jewelry.
Q: What’s your best piece of travel advice?
A: Get a window seat.
Q: Is there a destination to which you can’t imagine not returning?
A: Africa, because if I went there I’d probably want to stay.
Q: Where are your favorite weekend getaways?
A: The couch for college football.
Q: Where would you like to travel to next?
A: Back to the United Kingdom because it feels like a second home and the music scene is so diverse and interesting.
Q: Tell us about your upcoming project(s)?
A: My upcoming EP “Head vs Heart” is an experience. I take you on a journey through my thoughts and my life, things almost everyone goes through, and in the end you become a new person.
An alternative soul-pop singer-songwriter from Missouri, Al’Michael is ready to take the music world by storm with the release of his first single “Fire To Myself,” which came out on October 15, off of his upcoming debut EP “Head vs Heart.” The debut album will release in January 2014 and uses elements of soul, pop, rock, and live instrumentation to revolutionize the sound of pop music as we know it.
Al’Michael grew up in a spiritual and musical family environment that always valued his love for music. His passion for singing began in his church choir as a child, under the direction of his mother, who recognized his singing talent early on and helped develop his powerful, soulful voice. Influenced by the likes of Boyz II Men, Donnie Hathaway, Rascal Flatts, Usher, and Michael Jackson, Al’Michael developed a passion for singing, songwriting, and performing, to which he dedicated most of his time while growing up. The artist also excels in athletics and spends any time outside of the studio boxing and playing basketball.
