Jetsetting With Singer-Songwriter Al’Michael

Pop and soul singer-songwriter Al’Michael moved to Los Angeles from Columbia, Missouri, to launch a solo music career. Q: What type of traveler are you? (i.e., adventurer, cultural explorer, free spirit, rejuvenator, spa aficionado, etc.)
A: I’m a free spirit. I don’t need to have a destination in mind and have everything mapped out. I do whatever I feel that day.
Q: What types of activities do you like to do on your travels? Do you look for a place where it’s quiet and you can relax or someplace that has great activities or nightlife?
A: I look for a mixture of both peace and activity. It’s always good to stay somewhere that has activities within walking distance and also offers quiet areas for relaxing.
Q: When thinking about where you will travel to next, what inspires you to make a decision? And what, if any, research do you do about that destination?
A: I like to go where I can learn about new styles of music and see the origin and culture of the music, how the people are influenced by it, etc. I like to get to the heart of the place and get to the bottom of where the music started
Q: What is the most memorable trip you’ve taken and why?
A: I went to school in Europe for a short period of time. It was my first time in a different country with new people and around a different culture. I was the only American in the school. I also love family vacations for Thanksgiving in Atlanta and just being close to family.
Q: What is the best food you’ve ever found on a trip?
A: One time in Paris I had a pizza with an egg in the middle. I had never seen that before, but it was good.
Q: What, if anything, do you always take with you when you travel?
A: My Bible and my jewelry.
Q: What’s your best piece of travel advice?
A: Get a window seat.
Q: Is there a destination to which you can’t imagine not returning?
A: Africa, because if I went there I’d probably want to stay.
Q: Where are your favorite weekend getaways?
A: The couch for college football.
Q: Where would you like to travel to next?
A: Back to the United Kingdom because it feels like a second home and the music scene is so diverse and interesting.
Q: Tell us about your upcoming project(s)?
A: My upcoming EP “Head vs Heart” is an experience. I take you on a journey through my thoughts and my life, things almost everyone goes through, and in the end you become a new person.
