Global Chic Shopping on Fabulous Fillmore Street
One of San Francisco’s best boutique shopping areas is located in the heart of San Francisco’s jazz district. While you won’t find large department stores on Fillmore Street, what you will find is a plethora of boutiques with international flair, some of which chose Fillmore for one of only a few American locations. Every time I visit Fillmore Street, I discover new favorite shops overflowing with global style. Here is a sampling:
Mudpie is a delightful children’s boutique that recently relocated from Union Street. The historic building houses a collection of children’s clothing, accessories, and gifts from Europe. It offers an assortment of fun and unique gifts in an inviting atmosphere, the perfect place to purchase the ideal gift for children on your gift list.
Jurlique is the place to go for natural skin care products. The boutique has graced Fillmore Street for more than 10 years, providing Australian-made skin care remedies created from organically grown botanicals. Jurlique has a full range of skin care and facial services to help customers feel pampered inside and out.
Jonathan Adler sells everything one needs to make a home cozy and chic with a designer touch. Whether looking for furniture, furnishings, or home accessories, the store offers a groovy yet sophisticated option in a colorful and inviting space. Adler, the brand’s founder, began his foray into retail through high-design pottery.
Ruti brings designer women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, and handbags direct from Tel Aviv. Made from natural fibers, the designs are distinctive yet flattering in a range of neutrals and fashion colors. This chic shop has only been open one year.
Roberta Freymann offers fashion-forward women’s clothing and accessories inspired by international crafts. Freymann works with local artisan’s to create her unique blend of global fashion from Latin America, Asia, and India.
Scotch & Soda features Amsterdam couture in its gallery-like store. Merchandise is displayed artistically with men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, and jewelery. This is one of the brand’s first U.S. stores.
All throughout the shopping adventure, we sampled tasty appetizers courtesy of the local eateries. Taco Bar provided sumptuous carnitas tostadas, a perfect blend of spicy, salty and crispy; Troya Mediterranean Kitchen served up a selection of tasty Turkish fare; and at the Elite Cafe, we enjoyed Southern cuisine such as seafood gumbo, cornbread, shrimp and scallion johnny cakes, fried okra, and sweet potato fries.
