CordeValle Resort: A Playground for the Mighty Sultans of Silicon Valley
Less than an hour south of the frenetic Silicon Valley is a tiny sanctuary tucked away between the rolling hills of the Santa Cruz Mountains and the lush plains of the San Joaquin Valley. CordeValle, the shortened version of the original name, Corazon de Valle (The Heart of the Valley) is the shining jewel of the area.
CordeValle, a Rosewood resort, golf course, spa and winery, has become the secret destination for high-powered Silicon Sultans who want a little rest and relaxation after working hard to ink multi-million-dollar deals. It is understandable why these business leaders select CordeValle as their destination of choice. The moment your drive onto the lush, green property, time stands still and breathing becomes easier.
The property is nestled on 1,700 acres with only 44 bungalows and villas. That’s it. So the second you arrive at the front lobby, the staff knows your name and is ready and willing to do anything to make your stay memorable.
Located on the property are four different dining options:
Il Vigneto
Executive Chef Luca Rutigliano from Rome had a vision of combining the freshest local produce and organic meats to create a simple-yet-succulent contemporary California menu infused with Italian influences. And at Il Vigneto, located in the clubhouse, he makes that happen. Chef Rutigliano received a portion of his culinary training at the prestigious Etoile Culinare University in Venice, Italy. Prior to becoming executive chef at CordeValle, Chef Rutigliano gained extensive experience at five‐star hotels and resorts throughout Europe, the Caribbean and the Middle East. Most recently, he held the admired position of Executive Sous Chef at The Carlyle in New York.
Chef Rutigliano’s awards and accolades include first place at the Super Star Culinary Competition hosted by the revered Chef Alain Eigenmann, and the Vatel Club 2005 Trophy.
Lions Peak Grill
Located next to the golf pro shop, the Lion’s Peak Grill offers casual dining in an outdoor patio setting. The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May to October and from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. November through April. Beverages and cocktails are served until sunset.
One Iron Bar
The One Iron Bar is centrally located in the main lobby and overlooks the hills of CordeValle and the golf course. It serves contemporary California cuisine that features local produce as well as specialty drinks and a wonderful selection of wines and international spirits. This is a great location to relax after a day of golf or hiking. The open fireplace is perfect for those chilly nights.
In Room Dining
In-room dining is the way to go for couples getting away for a romantic weekend. Choose from a full menu and enjoy your meal – preferably in the cozy robes provided in your room – in front of the open fireplace, in bed, or on the terrace overlooking the golf course and the rolling hills of CordeValle.
Spa
The Sense Spa is truly the heart of CordeValle. Spa guests enjoy private locker rooms with whirlpool and steam, an outdoor heated pool, a fully-equipped fitness center, tennis courts, an outdoor yoga deck, hiking trails, a co-ed relaxation area, and the spa boutique. With six beautifully-appointed spa rooms, including a couples’ room with a private whirlpool tub and shower and a full-service Vichy shower with Turkish steam room, guests can expect to be treated like royalty in the spa.
CordeValle’s spectacular Northern California setting is reflected in spa treatments that draw upon the natural healing properties of the region’s herbs, plants, minerals and fruits. With vineyards flourishing on the sunny hillsides, it’s only natural that grape seeds are a part of several signature spa treatments. Each treatment room has a private garden designed to bring in the wonder of the outdoors.
The spa offers a spectrum of services, including mani-pedis, facials and mommy-to-be massages.
Golf Course
CordeValle is a golf lover’s dream come true. Featuring a 260-acre, 18-hole championship golf course designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the California golf resort has garnered some of America’s most prestigious golf recognition, including:
• Golfweek 2010: Best Courses You Can Play, No. 7 in California
• Golf.com 2010: Premier Resorts: Best in Your Area: California’s Best Golf, no. 4; Best Lodging, No. 2
• Golf Digest 2009: Best State Golf Course, No. 28; America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses, No. 60; The 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America, No. 21
• San Francisco Business Times 2009: Most Difficult Courses in the Greater Bay Area, No. 5 (ranked by NCGA course rating)
• Golf Digest Index 2009: World’s Best Golf Hotels, No. 14 in the United States
Reflecting the belief that championship golf courses are not built just for professional tournaments, CordeValle offers an impressive variety of play. What can be a serious challenge from the back tees can become fun and friendly from the regular and forward tees. Like the world’s great courses, it takes on a different theme each time it is played.
Also available from the pro shop are private golf lessons and caddy service.
Winery
As if golf, dining, and spa services were not enough, CordeValle is next to the Clos LaChance Winery. Clos LaChance welcomes visitors daily and offers a wonderful selection of wines as well as breathtaking views of CordeValle. Clos LaChance’s knowledgeable tasting room staff will guide you through the magic of making and enjoying wine. The winery offers a variety of wine-tasting programs and tours to choose from, including a “Limited Edition” tasting featuring reserve and small-production wines, tours of the cellar, and a demonstration vineyard presentation. The winery also offers a handful of special events throughout the year, along with Time for Wine every Thursday. To get to the winery, just ask the front desk for a ride. It is a scenic five-minute ride in a golf cart to the top of the hill where the winery is located.
