Capella Pedregal, Cabo San Lucas – A True Lifestyle Experience
We landed in the late afternoon on a balmy day and were welcomed by Salvador, who was eagerly waiting for us with cold drinks and jasmine-scented towels, presented on a delightful Mexican ceramic tray. The adventure had begun.
We arrived at Capella Pedregal through a private tunnel called Dos Mares. The unexpected mountain-carved entrance spoke of mystery.
We felt we had left the world behind and had entered a universe of magic and beautiful fantasy.
As the story goes, the Diaz family wanted to access their beautiful beachfront land, but the only way to do so was to carve through the mountain. The best engineers were hired and the resort was conceived.
Our Estrella suite awaited us with its plush bed fit for a queen. The private outdoor terrace was enchanting, and featured an infinity pool, a fire pit, and a breathtaking ocean view. We settled in our private quarters and then ventured downstairs.
Capella, “the double constellation,” rests on the southernmost tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. With 24 mountainside and oceanfront acres, its grandeur complements the beautiful and legendary rock known as Land’s End.
The private hideaway is just 10 minutes from the Los Cabos Marina. Guests can embrace the “Cabo culture” and enjoy colorful shops and authentic Mexican cuisine.
The Capella Resort and Spa boasts 66 rooms, four pools, three bars, a private library, a spa, a full-service beauty salon, a fitness center, and gourmet dining. The resort was designed to complement the mountain backdrop and the blue water of the Pacific Ocean. Exceptional service is a key element of the Capella experience.
Capella features three distinct dining experiences – Don Manuel’s is excellent for fine dining, El Farallon offers fresh-caught seafood from its stunning cliff-top location, and the casual Beach Club offers “coastal cuisine.”
Executive chef Marco Bustamente heads all three restaurants at Capella and still finds time to offer cooking classes to guests.
His enthusiasm is contagious, and guests are able to quickly learn how to make delicious dishes such as seabass ceviche.
His experience in five-diamond and Michelin-rated establishments has raised the bar for dining in Cabo San Lucas. Bustamante searches local markets for the freshest ingredients for four- and five-course menus that change weekly. Bustamante is a poet at heart, and his spicy cuisine demonstrates his love of fine food.
The 12,000-square-foot Auriga Spa is a blissful oasis with treatments based on the cycles of the moon. One of the flagship treatments is the rose crystal lymphatic facial. The skin is cleansed, exfoliated, and rejuvenated with feather-soft strokes. The gentle rose smell is pleasurably intoxicating. Other favorites are the New Moon and Full Moon treatments.
With a personalized airport greeting, an enchanting location, and fine dining, Capella Pedregal embodies pure luxury.
Peter Bowling, the general manager and a veteran in the hospitality industry, is the wizard behind the perfectly orchestrated resort. Bowling has held executive positions at some of the Caribbean’s finest resorts, including The Royal Pavilion in Barbados and the Cotton House Hotel in Mustique.
His vision was to create an incredible experience paired with a community feel, a “home away from home” for his guests, and he has indeed achieved his goal. You just have to go see for yourself.
