Animal Acres Gala — Fun With (and Under) the Stars
I attended a Gala over the weekend at one of my favorite places in LA.
Animal Acres is a Sanctuary and Compassionate Living Center for farmed animals in Acton, CA. The sanctuary is located on a beautiful 26-acre hacienda-style ranch, just 40 minutes from Hollywood.
It is open for tours and has a wonderful gift shop full of recipe books and information about the animals and their plight.
My friends were shocked to see how unnaturally big the pigs are bred to grow.
It is a haven for those creatures who have been abused, discarded and neglected. To be there is to feel true healing and a renewed joy for life.
Before the performances started we got to mingle with the real stars of the evening.
The gala was a splashy affair with some of the top ambassadors for the compassion movement.
James Cromwell was a presenter as well as Jorja Fox from CSI. Social Distortion toned it down that night and played an amazing rock-a-billy set.
And then Chrissy Hynde graced the stage with her new band. She is bad-ass as she ever was. That woman does not age! Vegan diet perhaps?
All proceeds from the Gala go to benefit the organization’s emergency rescue and shelter programs to provide food, housing, and veterinary care for suffering farmed animals.
Even though the event is over it’s never too late to contribute – Please help them keep their doors open for more suffering farmed animals by donating any amount to their website. They welcome visitors and need volunteers year round.
